Free Motion Quilting Class/IL



Learn how to FMQ on your domestic sewing machine!  

This is a 3 hour class to learn the basics of free motion quilting on your regular sewing machine. 

We will discuss basting and marking your quilt top, auditioning designs for your quilt, tracing patterns and using stencils. 

We will practice on paper first to get the “feel” for curves, waves, circles and swirls. Then learn the basic stippling techniques to fill space quickly. 


REQUIREMENTS FOR CLASS: 
Sewing Machine in good working order (Please bring the slide-on table for your machine if you have one. The larger flat surface to work on the better!)
Free Motion Foot (embroidery foot) with spring action for you machine
Must know how to drop feed dogs on machine.
Cotton thread, scissors, marking pens (Frixion recommended) and long ruler
Quilting Gloves are helpful (bring them if you have them)
18’ to 24” square quilt sandwich. Please choose solid or muslin for this so that you can easily trace designs and check your quilting stitches.
