Cactus Flower Table Runner

Class Preparation

This is a 1 day class intended to teach the process of foundation paper piecing. You will need to purchase the pattern for this class. The pattern includes the yardage instructions, cutting templates, and the foundation papers. Read the pattern prior to class.

Organization: Organization is the key to making this Table runner. Prior to class, all of the cutting must be completed. Please pay special attention to placing foundation units, template layout sheets, and fabric pieces into labeled bags; this pattern requires 3  bags (I like to use Zip-Loc type bags).  The pattern also suggests using binder clips (not quilt binding clips) to clip templates and fabric pieces together. They work great!  Large paperclips will also work.

Selecting Fabrics: The yardage amounts and suggested colors are listed on Page 8 of the pattern or the back page.  Non-batiks are always an option.

Templates and Foundation Papers: To cut foundation papers and templates, refer to Pages 1-2 of the instructions.  Begin with “Foundation Papers, Templates, and Template Layout sheets” on Page 1. Then move to “Setting up your bags  #1-3” on Page 2.  This will need to be done before cutting the fabrics.

Fabric Cutting Instructions: There are separate instructions for each bag 1-3.   Complete the cutting as directed and add the pieces to the numbered bags.  I will show you how to use the Template Layout Sheets in class.

If fabric cutting is not completed before class, there will very little time to work on piecing. Allow at least a half day to complete the cutting for this table runner.
